Decentralized Testing
The Decentralized Laboratory Testing (DLT) Program coordinates, oversees and regulates compliance to ensure that all waived/PPMP (Physician Performed Microscopy Procedure) testing is performed in compliance with state and federal regulations as proposed by Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments (CLIA). These areas of oversight include John Dempsey Hospital, the University Medical Group physician offices and the UCONN Health Partner locations. The John Dempsey Hospital DLT Program is accredited by JCAHO (Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations). All areas must comply with DLT Program guidelines to ensure quality pateint care.
THE DLT PROGRAM:
- Designs, implements and monitors bedside testing and provides monthly communication of quality findings.
- Participates in DLT education during employee orientation as coordinated with Education Services and conducts a 4 hour phlebotomy class with the eligibility for staff to obtain practical training in the Laboratory Medicine blood drawing area.
- Assists with mandatory annual demonstration and documentation (validation) of employee competency for all staff performing waived testing.
